How to add a section with media beside your text
Learn to add a custom section in Shopify. Place an image, a video or a product next to your text in a Shopify blog post
By default, every block in a vevy blog post sits in one column, one under the other. A section lets you put media beside your text, like a magazine page. One side holds an image, a video or a product, and the other side holds your text.
Sections help when a picture or a product belongs to a specific paragraph. Readers see both at once, so they don't have to scroll back and forth.
How to add a section to a Shopify blog post
Open your post in the blog builder. To start a new one, click Create article and pick a layout or a blank page.
In the toolbar above the canvas, click Add section. On the Free and Starter plans, the button shows a PRO label.
A new section appears in your post, with a media side and a text side.
Drag an image, a video or a product from the Elements panel into the media side.
Write your text, or drag text elements like a heading or a paragraph, into the text side.
Add more sections the same way, then click Save draft or Publish.

How to change the blog layout of one section
Click the section in your post.
Open the Block tab on the right.
Choose the layout and the media width (1/3, 40% or 1/2 of the section).
Click Save draft or Publish.
When you change one section, the other sections in the post keep their own layout.
How to set the default layout for new sections
New sections use the layout from your template settings. When you change the default, every section you add after that uses it.
In vevy, go to Templates.
On the Customize your article template card, click Customize design.
Open the Layout tab.
Choose Stacked, Media left, Media right or Alternating.
Set Media width (1/3, 40% or 1/2) and choose what happens On mobile: media above the text, or text above the media.
Check the Live preview on the right, then click Save settings.

Sections you already added keep their own layout when you change the default. See Template settings for the other options.
How sections look on phones
On small screens, the two sides of a section stack, so the post stays easy to read. The On mobile setting decides whether readers see the media or the text first.
To check it, click the phone icon above the canvas in the blog builder before you publish.
Sections, Text & Image or Text & Product?
All three place content next to your text, and each one fits a different need:
Text & Image places one image beside a title and text. It's in the Layout group. See How to add images to a Shopify blog post.
Text & Product places one product with its price and a buy button beside your text. It's in the E-commerce group, on the Starter and Pro plans. See How to add products to a Shopify blog post.
Sections give you more control. You can put an image, a video or a product on the media side, and you choose the layout of each section. Sections are on the Pro plan.
Tips
Use sections for content that belongs together, like a product and the paragraph that describes it.
Use Alternating for long guides and lookbooks, because switching sides keeps the page moving.
Keep the text side short. When the text is much longer than the media, a full-width block reads better.
Put tall media, like a TikTok video, in a section. In the Stacked layout it fills the whole width of the post, and in a section it sits next to the text it supports.
